OUR
STORY

RACE THE PEARL
Live Life Beyond Limits

RACE THE PEARL is a 24 Hr Cycling Challenge, that will push all known physical and mental boundaries in an attempt to ride a bicycle across Sri Lanka, the Pearl of the Indian Ocean. Some will Race and some will Ride. The route is between the furthest two points of Point Pedro and Dondra head and will almost bisect the island and take you through a varied mix of terrain of pan-flat straight-arrow roads, mild uphills and downhills, green and barren land, while riding through day and night, rain and shine. An Exhilarating, Exotic, and Epic Endurance Challenge that stacks up against and beyond any Ultra Endurance Event in the World. The men & women of steel who complete this will cherish the prestigious ' Pearl Jersey ' and add to the collection of stories of living life beyond limits.

You will take part as a Solo 24Hr Rider, Solo Two Day Rider, or a Relay Team with up to 5 members. The race starts on 08th December 2024 from the topmost tip of Sri Lanka, Point Pedro in the Jaffna Peninsula, and finishes at the Southern coast of Sri Lanka.

Most international riders will arrive at the Katunayake International Airport and make it to Colombo for a few days. Some will stay at the touristy city of Negombo before they leave for Jaffna / Point Pedro for the race start. Riders From India will take a flight from Chennai to the race start It's generally a 7-hour drive by Car or Coach depending on the time you leave. The train is an option if booked early . Refer to the lodging section for star-rated all the way to cheap and cheerful options.

On Race Day you will need a Rider Support Vehicle (RSV), which can be coordinated with the help of Spinner. Good to plan this early. Self-supported riders need prior clearance

The race consists of 5 Aid Stations / Timing Stations where each rider has to sign off. Each Aid Station provides Solid Food such as Sandwiches or  Pasta and Nutrition in the form of fruits, electrolytes, and water as well as a washroom facility. The time spent at these stations is at the discretion of the rider, as the clock is ticking

Rider and Rider Support  Vehicle (RSV) Crew need to be capable of roadside bicycle mechanics and route navigation.

The awards and after-party are held at the finish line partner hotel.

Most will spend a few days Down South to recover. The beaches are among the best in the world, Some will head towards Mirissa for whale watching, others will go a bit inland for Elephants and Leopards in the Yala  National Park. The return back to Colombo or the Katunayake airport is approximately 2 hours on the highway.

Few days down the line your legs still be sore , but your heart will be full of spirit and urge to come back for more. Just like our Race The Pearl Legent Agnes Safford.
